3. Mask |
| |
We will use a mask to create a fading effect on the grid. Add a mask to the grid layer by clicking on a mask icon in the Layer window. |
| |
| |
With a mask you can define which part of a layer is visible and which is transparent. When you draw on a mask black color is used to set "transparent" part and white color is used to set the "visible" part. |
| |
| |
To get a better view of the mask open the Channels Window and make the Mask channel visible (here named grid Mask). |

4. Visible -> Transparent Gradient |
| |
Choose the Paint Bucket Tool, set it to Foreground and fill the image with black color -> which will be seen as red, that means that the layer is now transparent (notice the missing grid). |
| |
| |
| |
But we don't want the whole layer to stay transparent. We will now define the visible part: Choose the Brush Tool and set it to a very large size (approx. 4 times larger than the grid) and set the Hardness to 0%. That way the brush will be very soft and will create a nice gradient with it's edge - from visible to transparent. |

| |
Set color to white and click on the middle of the right border. You should see the grid reapear. |
| |
| |
| |
Set the Mask's channel back to invisible. |
