  1. Preparing the Photos

Prepare the photos by getting rid of the background. Here for example I used the Magnetic Lasso Tool to outline the head. When you are finished with outlining the head will be selected. Then select the background by Select -> Inverse and and press delete to clear it (or Edit -> Cut). The background will become white if you have white set as a background color.

  2. Transfering

Select the background with the Magic Wand Tool and then select inverse (Select -> Inverse). Copy the selected area (Edit -> Copy) and paste it into the movie scene (Edit -> Paste).

Scale (Edit -> Transform -> Scale) and rotate (Edit -> Transform -> Rotate) the transfered area to roughly fit the background. Also try to create similar brightness and contrast (Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast)

  3. Precise Fitting

tut6_11

Get rid of the unwanted parts, eg. clothing with the Eraser Tool.

Rotate and scale the transfered area to precisely fit the background.

In this example I also decided to flip the lady's head horizontaly (Edit -> Transform -> Flip Horizontal)

  4. Repairing the Background

This is the the most difficult part. In this case the most problematic was Orlando Bloom's hair in the background. I fixed that with the Clone Stamp Tool. Use this tool to clone the undamaged areas and implement them where it is needed. In this case I wanted to have a pink umbrella instead of the curly hair, so I cloned a part of the umbrella that was undamaged and colored the hair with it. Hold Alt key while clicking with the Clone Stamp Tool to select the area you want to clone, then release the Alt key and color the unwanted part.
